From the President

TO THE IONA ALUMNI COMMUNITY,

We are Iona University. Over the summer we celebrated this new status, reflecting the evolution and elevation of Iona’s place in higher education and the opportunity to advance the core mission and values of Iona. United in faith, hope and the enduring spirit of St. Columba, Blessed Edmund Rice and the legacy of the Christian Brothers, we stand on the precipice of the next chapter of Iona with great appreciation for all that has brought us here.

This year we transformed our New Rochelle campus with a vibrant new green space, expanded into a new community with a second campus in Bronxville, attracted top leaders to the helm of the NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences, and pushed ahead with expanding opportunities for students across all facets of their lives – academic, athletic, extracurricular, social and recreational.

These advances, and many others, have created and deepened patterns of movement and thought that build on our heritage and integrate past and present to further the Iona legacy. We have accomplished great things in our 82-year history, and there is more for us to do.

In just a few weeks in Bronxville, we will open the flagship building of the NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences. The state-of-the-art Kelly Center for Health Sciences is made possible with a generous $5 million gift from benefactors Al and Peggy Kelly and will be a beacon for all those who feel called to serve others through the health sciences.

I am incredibly grateful for the support of our generous alumni who appreciate Iona as the place where they got their start, were given a chance, and worked hard to take full advantage of the education, professional network and lifelong friendships Iona afforded. In this magazine, you will read about Al and Peggy Kelly and another anonymous alumnus who recently gave $1 million to advance the work ahead. His story is one that perfectly reflects the transformative power of an Iona education, and I hope it will move you to join our donors in support of future Gaels who may not otherwise have an Iona opportunity.

Iona is a school on the rise, and thanks to the dedication of the entire Iona community, we continue to grow in service to our students. We have an ambitious outlook for the future. With your continued faith and support, there is no limit to what we can do at Iona University.

Sincerely,
Seamus Carey, Ph.D. President, Iona University
