Iona College Students Get Involved To Move The World
Hundreds of eager Iona College students teemed onto Mazzella Field on September 6, to learn about the many ways they could get involved on campus. The Iona College annual Involvement Fair was a part of the Weeks of Welcome on campus, giving students the opportunity to learn more about clubs and the many events available to them, and to meet like-minded students who wanted to get involved.
Seventy-five clubs and organizations were represented at the Involvement Fair, allowing students to choose areas of interest including academics, advocacy, community service and hobbies.
A few of the many clubs that welcomed students were:
- the Democracy Matters club, which hosts several events on campus, including voter registration drives;
- the Edmund Rice Society, which organizes and participates in Midnight Runs, among other outreach activities;
- Golden Key, an international honor society;
- IC Green, an environmental advocacy club, where students can participate in recycling, cam pus cleanups, and raising a vegetable garden;
- Black Student Union, which holds many student-run events and performances throughout the school year, and also runs the BSU dance team; and
- the Social Work Club, which is supporting women in shelters by collecting sanitary products to donate.
President of the Colleges Against Cancer Club, Rebecca Lundgren ’19, said that she is “looking forward to (another great) year where all of the clubs interact and support each other.”
Although all students were encouraged to attend the Involvement Fair, freshmen were especially eager to get involved on campus.
Emily Fay ’22 said, “I am excited to attend the club fair for the first time because it will be a great way to broaden my horizons and involvement on campus.”
Marissa Sullivan ’20 said, “I have made so many connections since joining Phi Sigma Sigma and would not have met my best friends if I did not decide to get involved.”
