Iona alumna and HEINEKEN® USA CEO Maggie Timoney ’89, ’92MBA, ’23H served as grand marshal of the 2024 St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City. Upholding tradition, the Iona alumni community proudly marched up Fifth Avenue, accompanied by the Pipe Band, Irish Dancers, and others.
“Maggie was a leader during her time at Iona and she continues to pave the way not only for the Irish community but for all who aspire to achieve success in both business and life,” said President Seamus Carey, Ph.D. “It is always an honor for the Iona Gaels to march up Fifth Avenue. This year was especially memorable as one of our own led the way.”
Timoney has been a member of the Iona Board of Trustees since 2015 and often credits her time at Iona for shaping her leadership skills. In 2023, she delivered the keynote address at the University’s 79th annual Commencement ceremony.
A native of Ballina, County Mayo, in the West of Ireland, Timoney was recruited to play basketball at Iona. She earned a bachelor’s degree in international studies in 1989 and an MBA in organizational behavior in 1992. In 2001, she was inducted into Iona’s Goal Club Hall of Fame as one of the greatest women’s basketball players in the University’s history.
In 2023, she established the Seamus and Una Timoney Endowed Scholarship Fund, in honor of her parents, to support a member of the women’s basketball program.
“Iona University shaped me into who I am today—on the basketball court and off the basketball court,” she said during an interview with NBC New York. “I have to tell you, without Iona, I would not be where I am today.”
