Bruce Beck, an Emmy Award-winning lead sports anchor for NBC 4 New York, has joined Iona’s Sports Communication & Media graduate program as an executive-in-residence. Beck serves as a guest lecturer in classes; provides one-on-one access to students for mentoring and guidance on career opportunities; assists students in finding internships; invites current and/or past broadcasters, athletes and coaches to campus to engage with students and much more.
Notably, Beck has covered a multitude of global events during his career including five Super Bowls, eight World Series, the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup Finals, the U.S. Open Tennis Championship, the U.S. Open Golf Championship, the NCAA Final Four, the Kentucky Derby and ten Olympics between 2002 and 2020.
In total, he has received eight New York Sports Emmys, one Mid-Atlantic Sports Emmy, and three national Cable Ace Awards. Meanwhile, the National Sports Media Association (NSMA) elected him New York State Sportscaster of the Year nine times from 2007 to 2017. Beck also holds his popular Bruce Beck Sports Broadcasting Camp on Iona’s campus each summer.
