Wanda is currently enrolled in New York University’s Silver School in a master’s degree program in Advanced Clinical Work.
What have you accomplished so far that you are most proud of?
I was recently awarded the NASW Student of the Year Award. I was honored just to be nominated. When I learned that I was awarded the honor, I found this to be both exciting and humbling. While I am happy about the work that I have done thus far to help vulnerable populations, I know that there is so much more work to be done. I am looking forward to furthering my education to enhance my skills and explore additional resources that will help me serve my community competently.
Was there a particular project you worked on as a student at Iona that really impacted you?
I really enjoyed collaborating with the Office of Mission and Ministry and found the Midnight Run project to be the most impactful. We went into the city at night to engage members of the community experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. We conversed with them and distributed food, clothing and toiletries. This program allowed me to serve my community and provide resources that fulfilled some essential needs for people.
Is there a special lesson you learned at Iona?
I learned that it is possible for anyone to move the world with the right resources.
