LaPenta School of Business on Schedule for Early 2020 Ribbon Cutting

On July 26, 2018, Iona College broke ground on the new LaPenta School of Business. Today, less than 18 months later, with a ribbon cutting on schedule for January 2020, the striking glass and brick façade has invigorated the campus with an innovative design that combines the traditional with the modern.

The interior is nearly complete with 21 light-filled classrooms, seven more than the original building held; a dramatic three-story atrium; over 40 faculty offices; a 100-seat auditorium; quiet study rooms; state-
of-the-art computer labs; student and faculty lounge areas with soft seating; a new trading floor; a vending area and an outdoor terrace, which overlooks Mazzella Field.

The spaces are designed to promote collaboration, as is the furniture, all of which is movable so that group study and projects can be facilitated. The building is fully accessible and is designed with sustainability in mind; the lighting system reduces energy consumption by dimming electric light in response to available daylight.

The LaPenta School of Business was made possible by a $17.5 million gift by alumnus and Board of Trustee member Robert V. LaPenta ’67, ’00H.

The ribbon cutting is expected to take place with a celebration in January 2020. Look for an announcement at www.iona.edu.
