Excellence of Graduate Program Recognized: MA in Communication Sciences and Disorders Receives Full Accreditation

As part of Ionaā€™s continuing investment in its health sciences programs, including Speech Communication Studies and Occupational Therapy, the College announced that in Spring 2019, its Master of Arts (MA) degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) was recognized with full accreditation from the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

ā€œOur CAA accreditation is the proud result of the hard work and dedication of our exceptional faculty, staff, administration and students.ā€

ā€œWe are proud of our Speech Communication Studies program and the accreditation in the CSD masterā€™s program,ā€ said provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs Darrell Wheeler, Ph.D., MPH, ACSW. ā€œIona offers a high-quality program that prepares students for in-demand jobs, such as those in the speech professions, and is very much in line with our Catholic mission of using oneā€™s education in pursuit of helping others.ā€

According to ASHA, job growth as high as 20% can be expected in various areas of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

CAA establishes accreditation standards and facilitates continuous quality improvement of the programs it accredits. Graduates of CAA-accredited and candidate programs are educated in a core set of skills and knowledge required for entry into independent professional practice. The CAA is committed to quality and dedicated to audiology and speech-language pathology programsā€™ success in preparing future professionals.

ā€œOur CAA accreditation is the proud result of the hard work and dedication of our exceptional faculty, staff, administration and students,ā€ added Jennifer Gerometta, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, associate professor and chair of Speech Communication Studies. ā€œMeeting the high standards of our accrediting body underscores the quality of our phenomenal graduate program.ā€
