MARCH 2017 AUGUST 2017
Iona College launches the Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation with a $15 million gift from James ’69, ’01H and Anne Marie Hynes, the largest gift to Iona’s Academy in its history. Iona College names Christoph Winkler, Ph.D., as endowed professor and founding director of the Hynes Center.
SEPTEMBER 2017 OCTOBER 2017
Student Entrepreneurship Club is formed, giving students opportunities to develop entrepreneurial skills through collaboration and innovation.

Lunch & Learn series is launched, providing opportunities for faculty and administrator engagement.

Ribbon cutting ceremony is held for Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation.

GaelVentures Startup Incubator space opens at 748 North Avenue.

The first ideaHackathon, a contest where students pitch entrepreneurial ideas for prizes, is held.

NOVEMBER 2017 JANUARY 2018
Coworking is launched. Coworking provides a collaborative workspace at GaelVentures where students, mentors and faculty develop ideas, work on projects and discover their entrepreneurial potential. Student interns are hired.

First entrepreneurial courses are offered.

FEBRUARY 2018 MARCH 2018

The Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation Speaker Series is launched with James Hynes ’69, ’01H as the inaugural speaker.

The Hynes Institute Alumni Mentor Network is launched giving students opportunities to work with and learn from entrepreneurial alumni.

The Committee on Academic Affairs approved 11 courses that will comprise an undergraduate minor and
a graduate certificate in Entrepreneurship & Innovation.

APRIL 2018 JULY 2018
The inaugural Iona Innovation Challenge is launched, giving students an opportunity to win monetary prizes as they address real-world problems with unique solutions. Iona students participated in the European Innovation Academy in Turin, Italy.

Pre-college program in Entrepreneurship & Innovation is offered for local high school students.
